Description of B.E.S.T and the Morter Health System The conscious mind is something we are all very familiar with. It is the mind we use everyday on every task that we have throughout the day. It is the mind that we can teach and reason with. Our subconscious mind on the other hand, has a lot to do with our body's healing abilities. It controls the functions of our body including the immune system and everything it needs to heal and repair. It does not think, reason or use logic. One of the things that runs our subconscious mind is information stored there by the source that created us. It regulates our bodies function such as our heart rate, blood count, calcium levels, hormones, potassium levels etc. There is a long list of functions our subconscious mind knows and keeps regulated, all without us even thinking about it. The other information our subconscious mind works with is the information stored there by our experiences. One way information gets stored in the "hard drive" (belief system) of our subconscious is repetition. (When we experience the sun rising and setting enough times, we come to "believe" that the sun is going to rise and set each day. Things can also get stored in the "hard drive" of the subconscious with only a one time experience if it is accompanied by pain or a very strong emotion or both. This would be a trauma that could get ingrained into our subconscious mind even with only the one time experience. The subconscious then continues reacting to that stressful situation even though it may be long over. Imagine for a minute that you are in a shower when an earthquake hits and your house collapses around you. Without a doubt the next time you go to get into the shower your body will go into defense mode. The heart rate will increase, adrenalin will start flowing and you will have anxiety. You could try using logic of your conscious mind. You could quote statistics and the odds of it ever happen again, trying to convince your body not to react with anxiety. It will not change how your body is reacting because your subconscious mind is designed to protect you. And it learns what to protect you from, not by logic or reason, but by experience. And an experience accompanied by pain or intense emotion such as fear, will take priority. So much so, that after the earthquake experience, it is possible that your body reacts not only as you get into the shower, but maybe each time you walk back into the bathroom, or maybe when you walk into any bathroom, and will continue to do so for a very long time, maybe for the rest of your life. It could even carry over into other areas of your life. This is where the problems come in. Our bodies were not designed to be in defense physiology (stress mode) on a continuous basis. The body's systems can get exhausted and out of synch with each other. Then we start having physical problems. For example, when we are under stress our body produces too much acid and can throw the entire ph balance of our body off. Having a body that is too acidic is believed to be the cause of many illnesses and diseases. Or sometimes muscles on one side of our body might have tightened tighter than the other side causing TMJ, disc problems, stiff necks or other more restricted range of motion and pain. This holds true with emotional issues as well as physical ones. The body can get "stuck" in the defense or stress mode. Traumas such as the earthquake are usually pretty obvious to us. But many in our life are more subtle, or happened to us when we were very young and we don't remember them. But our bodies could still be reacting to them, without us realizing. Some of these traumas may even be the cause of us not achieving the goals we would like to achieve. The most important point of all of this is that when our body is reacting in stress mode, it can not be in healing mode. It is always in one or the other. B.E.S.T. can move you from the stress or trauma mode into a more relaxed healing mode. The best part of it all is..you don't have to know or remember the trauma that is at the basis of your problems. And you don't even have to discuss them with your practitioner.
